Sarah runs a student volunteer program where she recruits and mentors Canadian dietetic students who are wanting to become Registered Dietitians and interested in the areas of private practice and blogging. Sarah only brings on students who are passionate about the areas of pre-natal nutrition, maternal health and pediatric nutrition and share the same nutritional philosophies. She also look for students who have some blogging/social media experience.
For the 2016/2017 year, Sarah is proud to introduce her *awesome* student volunteers, Dawn Amber and Jelisa Gallant; two very hard-working and passionate women who will one day make amazing Dietitians.
I am absolutely ecstatic for this opportunity to work along side Sarah Remmer! Originally from PEI, I have completed a BSc in Biochemistry Nutrition with a minor in Psychology from Memorial University. I relocated to Nova Scotia last year, where I am now currently in my fourth year in an BSc AHN with Dietetics Honours and loving it! My Honours thesis is centered around developing functional food products under the supervision of Dr. Luhovyy. This past summer I was fortunate to hold an NSERC USRA to work on a similar project. I was the executive for MSVU Canadian Association of Food Professionals as the First Year rep and will be returning this year as the education chair as well as the MSVU Co-Chair for the Canadian Nutrition Society. I love prenatal and postnatal nutrition as well as nutrition surrounding diabetic circumstances.
I absolutely love the world of dietetics, and I hope to start my own practice someday; so I definitely treasure this experience with Sarah. I can’t wait for all the fun projects to come!
For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued by all things food related. As I grew older and began to have more control over my personal food intake, my interest further developed.
In particular, I was fascinated by how diet and food directly affects one’s body and health. I became keen on advancing my education in this area.
So far, I have completed three years of the Nutrition and Dietetics program where I have studied various aspects of the profession including Food Science, Clinical Nutrition, Community Nutrition and Food Services (to name a few). This year will be my last year of the program and with the knowledge and experiences I have gained throughout my University career, I hope to further my education and career in Dietetics.
My dream is to become a Registered Dietitian. This will enable me to help others improve their knowledge and appreciation about quality food, lead healthier lives and move towards achieving their optimal health and wellbeing. Pediatric nutrition specifically holds my interest and I am convinced that the availability and consumption of quality and nutritious foods early on are directly related to a healthier and longer life. A healthy diet begins at home and it’s the foundation of a healthy lifestyle for years to come.
With my passion for Pediatric nutrition, Sarah has given me the amazing opportunity to share with you my knowledge, cultivate my creativity and continue to grow and learn in the field of Dietetics.
